About Us
Who are we?
I am Bob Schmidt the owner and technician for Make it Sew Missoula. Many of you remember me as the service technician for Sew Many Stitches formerly known as Timeless Quilts Bernina. After Earlene Cusker retired and closed Sew Many Stitches, Bob decided to continue the service and repair of all makes and models of domestic sewing machines in his own shop. Many of my customers encouraged me to embark on this endeavor and it was the right move.
I found a new location that promised to fit all of my needs. There is a large classroom area that can also be used for sewing days, meetings, or sales presentations. I concentrated my efforts on making a really usable and comfortable space with tables and chairs that seat 10 to 12 people and an overhead projector for presentations. This site was chosen because it is handicap accessible, and has a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, and sink.
The sales floor as you walk into the shop, features Brother brand sewing machines, Floriani threads and stabilizers, Floriani needles, and software. Sew Steady products and more. We are not just a service and repair shop anymore, but a Brother Authorized Dealer and Service Center.
Who is Bob?
Bob worked in the Midwest as a design engineer for 27 years before finally settling in Montana in 1997. His passion was designing automation for the plastics industry. Over his long career, he also supervised and managed groups of professionals involved in the building of automation and installation of finished cells in manufacturing facilities. He also enjoyed mentoring new starts in the industry and watching them grow in their positions.
After moving to Montana, he started a consulting business from home and continued to design automation for the plastics industry. After building a custom home in Potomac Montana, it was time to switch gears and work locally. He pursued a water well drilling license and worked for a local drilling company for nine years.
When the economy collapsed in 2008/2009 and the building industry suffered it was time once again to pursue another opportunity. That opportunity was a very satisfying career in the service and repair of domestic sewing machines. With the skills obtained in his former life as a design engineer, analyzing and repairing computerized sewing machines was a natural fit. He worked as a certified technician for Bernina and Janome from 2009 to 2018 at Timeless Quilts Bernina. When the shop closed and restarted as Sew Many Stitches, Bob followed. After Earlene (the owner) retired and closed the shop, Bob opened Make it Sew Missoula, LLC, and continues to service all makes and models today.
What do we do?
What is a COA?
Clean, Oil, and Adjust. This is your standard annual service. We remove all covers and clean them inside and out. While the covers are off we remove all lint, and any old oils and greases. We reapply fresh, high-quality lubricants we personally sourced. Finally, we make any necessary adjustments and minor repairs. If any replacement parts are needed we will call to discuss options and cost. The goal is to bring your machine to as near new working order as possible.
One of the most fun parts of sewing is sharing, be it gifts, showing off, or showing how to. We wanted a place where we could gather and craft together. We needed lots of room for activities and we think we found a great spot.
- Brand new tables and chairs for 10 or more people.
- Projector for presentations or Zoom view.
- Dedicated ironing and cutting stations.
- Extra bright white light.
Come join us in class, or host your own! We will help with advertisement and equipment, and you have one of the best technicians ready and waiting in case of emergency.
